Dimaggio Boosts Wood of Browns

NEW YORK—During one of his nationwide network television programs, Joe DiMaggio of the New York Yankees proclaimed Ken Wood, St. Louis Browns' outfielder, as the best-throwing outfielder in the American League today. Quizzed by a youngster on the subject, the Yankee Clipper was stopped for a few seconds when the youth presented this query: "Who has the strongest throwing arm in the American League, Hank Bauer of the Yankees or your brother, Dom DiMaggio of the Red Sox?" "Hank and Dom both have fine arms," Joe replied, "but the best throwing 'outfielder in the American League today is Ken Wood of the St. Louis Browns. In fact, he was so good and so accurate with his throws that our World's Champion New York Yankees were under instructions all last season never to take any extra bases on him.
